TL;DR
To tackle the traditional off-peak monsoon slump, I launched a highly interactive, boosted giveaway campaign specifically targeting a younger demographic (ages 18–25) where internal data clearly showed a critical lack of engagement and bookings. While the initiative successfully generated a massive spike in short-term awareness, it also provided a vital lesson in long-term audience retention strategies.
Stack I Used
• Campaign Planning & Strategy: Microsoft Excel & Planoly (Mapping the promotional timeline and grid aesthetic)
• Design & Production: Canva & Adobe InDesign (Creating clean, high-impact visuals to clearly communicate the giveaway value)
• Ad Deployment & Optimization: Meta Business Suite (Running a boosted post targeted specifically for traffic within the Kathmandu Valley region, keeping all other targeting parameters to default)
• Winner Selection & Logistics: Random Comment Picker (Utilized to filter valid entries and select the winners transparently)
Monsoon is traditionally a slower period for hospitality in Nepal, but because Hotel Country Villa stays heavily booked throughout the busier summer and fall seasons, it was our only window to run a massive promotional giveaway. Our strategy was heavily data-driven: our internal metrics clearly highlighted a distinct lack of engagement and bookings from the 18 to 25 age demographic. The goal of this campaign was to aggressively break into this quiet market segment, generating widespread buzz and building organic impressions among a younger crowd. To minimize friction and maximize entries, I kept the rules straightforward: users had to like the post, follow our page, and tag three friends in the comments.

Boosting the post through Meta Business Suite specifically targeted at traffic within the Kathmandu Valley gave the campaign an immediate, aggressive push. The response from the community was massive, bringing in nearly 600 likes and a huge wave of comments. However, managing the backend of a viral giveaway comes with its own logistical hurdles. Because the younger demographic loves interactive contests, we saw a massive surge in spam and duplicate entries. Filtering through the noise required strict monitoring, and we had to manually disqualify multiple entries from the same individuals to keep the selection process fair before running everything through a random comment picker.

From a pure visibility standpoint, the campaign was a resounding success—we achieved the exact spike in short-term engagement and follower growth we were looking for. It proved that our creative team could build an asset that resonated with a completely new audience segment. My role as the department lead was to ensure this influx of traffic was handled smoothly, balancing the excitement of the campaign with our regular brand messaging, and closing out the month with a clear understanding of what a high-velocity interactive campaign demands from an agency team.
Learnings
A massive spike in short-term impressions and engagement doesn't automatically translate into long-term brand loyalty. Looking back, instead of putting all our resources into one massive monsoon push, we should have sustained that momentum by timing smaller, alternative giveaways every other month to keep the new audience warm—a valuable operational lesson for managing luxury hospitality brands.
